It is mandatory to report the Sample Level Data (level 2) only if there were positive or inconclusive/pending cases present at aggregated data (level 1). Additional data are required for each case which varies according to the surveillance type: BSE, Scrapie, CWD or TSE (other species).

If the ‘Positive~’ and ‘Inconclusive~’ fields are not zero, the Data check field will show the message “Check positive/inconclusive cases”. This means there is the need to provide data about positive or inconclusive samples. In order to enter case data, right-click on the row and select the Open sample form option or double-click; then, the following message will appear:

Please note that since version 1.2.4 of the TSE reporting tool, it is possible to double click on a record to enter the Sample level data form.

After pressing the "Ok" button, a new window named "Sample level data" will appear. In this window, the TSE tool auto-generates one row for each positive and inconclusive/pending sample. In the case of positive or inconclusive/pending cases of CWD, the page creates two rows for each case, based on the assumption that for cervids at least 2 samples are taken from the same animal - obex and one of the following tissues in the following order of preference: retropharyngeal lymph nodes, tonsils, and other head lymph nodes. For BSE, SCRAPIE and TSE (other species), the row in the field “Part*” appears pre-populated with “Obex”.

Please note that it is needed to repeat this operation for each row containing at least 1 positive or inconclusive case. The tool automatically fills the "Sample level data" form in order to streamline the completion of the report.

It is possible to change the number of positive or inconclusive/pending animals in the "Aggregated Data" form at a later stage, but the tool will not automatically add new records or remove the already created records on the "Sample level data" form. The changes in the "Sample level data" form will have to be performed manually by adding/deleting samples. The only way to have automatic generation of samples is to delete the entire row/s in the Aggregated data level and recreate the initial record with a different number of positive or inconclusive/pending samples.

Please note that since version 1.2.4 of the EFSA's TSE reporting tool, the Data provider will not be able to access the Sample level data of an aggregated row until all the information required for this record is available in the Aggregated data level.

On the top-left corner of the form, you can see the information of the Aggregated Data (Level 1) related to the selected record, as shown in the figure below:

At this stage, the “Data check” field shows the message "Missing mandatory fields" in red. Please fill all the mandatory fields as required for each type of submission.

The user can delete records by selecting them and then right clicking and choosing the Delete records option. To add new records click on the New row button.
