Persona 3
Vega Sunderwate is a 23-year-old vegan, animal lover, and animal rights activist. Last year, she received a Bachelor's degree in Animal Services Studies. Since then, she has joined an animal rights nonprofit organization. She also works as a part time veterinarian at a local animal hospital. Vega makes enough money from these two occupations to live a comfortable middle class life.
Vega chose the vegan lifestyle at age 12, much to her parents’ reluctance, after witnessing how harshly animals were treated on so many farms. At the time, Vega’s parents assumed that she was just going through a phase and that she’ll be over it in a few months, but she has stuck with this life choice. Even after realizing this choice wasn’t just a temporary phase, Vega’s parents never contributed to her becoming a vegan; instead, they always encouraged her to give up being a vegan, saying that it was not natural.
In her teenage years, Vega was severely underweight. Her main problem was that she simply did not know how to stay healthy as a vegan. Since she was the only vegan in her family and her family was not willing to contribute to her vegan lifestyle, she had limited access to non-animal-based food products. Vega’s school was not much help either. The school’s cafeteria provided little in the way of vegan-acceptable food, so Vega had to pack what she could from home.
As a vegan, Vega has to monitor her diet carefully to make sure she gets the nutrients required to stay healthy. Vega has gotten better in regards to her health over the years, but she is still malnourished and could benefit from some assistance. Vega recently signed up to participate in study on peoples’ diets in hopes that it would help her learn how to maintain a healthy vegan diet. The dietitians running the study instruct Vega to use our Diet Assessment app to track her eating habits.
Being already accustomed to monitoring what she eats, Vega will not have any problems remembering to use the app. The app should benefit Vega as much as it helps in the dietitians’ study. The dietitians will receive a unique subject to monitor, Vega gets a convenient place to keep track of her diet, and Vega will also be able to receive suggestions from the dietitians as they monitor her diet through the app.
