JW Library Compatibility
JW Library is the recommended software for media playback at Kingdom Halls. However, at the time of writing it is unable to show 3rd-party images (e.g. those used by public speakers and circuit overseers). OnlyM is designed to meet that requirement. If you are using OnlyM (or other media playback software) in addition to JW Library there can be some contention for the media display (TVs or projector). This is where the OnlyM "JW Library compatibility mode" can help. When enabled, it tries to ensure that the JW Library background (currently the year text) is restored after OnlyM playback completes. The mechanism is fragile because of how Windows manages processes that attempt to control windows belonging to other applications. that Please follow these guidelines when using JW Library and OnlyM together:
- Set the "JW Library compatibility mode" in OnlyM settings.
- Make sure the Windows desktop background is black. This minimizes the distraction caused when control changes from one application to the other.
- Before starting media in JW Library please ensure that OnlyM is not displaying media.
- If you open or use other applications while OnlyM is displaying media it may not be able to restore the JW Library media window.
This information was correct at July 2018 (version 10.4.24257 of JW Library for Windows).
In Windows 10 UWP apps there is an optional "full-screen" mode for applications and its windows. You can see this by opening JWL and pressing SHIFT-WIN-ENTER. Notice that this makes JW Library full-screen with no title bar. When in this mode, the application will automatically minimize when another application is brought to the fore on the same monitor (this is apparently a tablet-friendly feature but is not disabled by turning tablet mode off). Use SHIFT-WIN-ENTER to toggle between modes.
When the media window (e.g. year text or a video) is displayed, JW Library shows it in this special full-screen mode. This means that if you open another window (or even drag a window from another monitor onto it), it will minimize (Windows thinks you want to show something else and so pushes the JW Library media window out of the way). This makes it fairly fragile, so take care!
