Key Markers

- Marks the beginning of the map's trail. Shown for the current map and also shown for all maps in either Lion's Arch or Mistlock Sanctuary.

- Marks a Point of Interest so you make sure you get it as you go by.

- Marks Vistas. Make sure to actually interact with them before moving on.

- Marks Waypoints so you don't miss them as you go by.

- These markers show you when you should begin working on hearts and when you should be finished before continuing on the trail.

- Marks either the hero point itself or the path leading to it, so you don't miss it.

Waypoint Markers

Waypoint markers are used to signify when and what waypoint you should teleport to. They are set up in the most intuitive way possible. When you open your map, you'll notice some waypoints have a marker with a squad symbol in it over them like the waypoint marker below. While running, you will eventually come to a dead-end with a purple crosshair and a squad symbol in it, like the waypoint target below. Simply open your map and click on the respective marker to continue on the trail.

General Markers

- These are path markers. In some instances, there may be multiple paths starting from the same point. These markers are used to denote which order to take the paths.

- Used sparingly in areas where the bond of faith skill will get you to otherwise unreachable platforms.

- Used to mark where you need to either enter or leave an instance.

- Marks the end of a map! If you don't have 100% after reaching this, you missed something :(

- Used very sparingly to mark points were Prototype Position Rewinder can be used.

- Used to mark places that can be timegated/locked out for whatever reason.

Mount Markers

These markers are typically self-explanatory. They do not necessarily denote the best option (beetle+bunny to restore endurance is often the best) but they are a generally good option and sometimes denote places where the mount MUST be used (often for griffon or bunny). If you want more info on the best use-cases for mounts, refer to the general tips page.

For the sake of the wiki:

- This marker is used whenever there's a long enough stretch to make it viable. This is your fastest means of transportation, so try and get good with it. The more you can stay going sonic on beetle, the faster you'll be overall. Using springer to refill the stamina gauge quickly is usually worth it over using one of the other mounts or waiting for the bar to refill while on beetle.

- Used to denote areas where griffon should be used. Skyscale will often work as well, but griffon is almost always faster.

- Used on slopes where it is superior to all other forms of travel.

- Used over flat ground that is too short for Beetle or where it's needed to jump long gaps.

- Used to denote when Skimmer should be used. Typically obvious, whenever there's water to cross (although sometimes beetle is used to skip across water). It's not shown every time you go underwater, but if you have the underwater mastery, obviously you should be using skimmer underwater.

- Used to denote where Skyscale can be used, always has an alternate path for those without skyscale.

- Used in areas where Springer should be used to ascend vertically. Skyscale can often also work, albeit typically slower.

- Used sparingly to show areas where the player should dismount.

- Denotes where you should use the bunny to griffon tech to get a super dive. To perform this, get on your springer and hold down your jump key - while still holding down the key, once your endurance bar is down to about 1/4 left, also press and hold your griffon mount key. If you do it correctly, you should be shot up in the air on bunny and then swap into griffon at the apex of the jump. It takes a bit to master at first, but it's easy to replicate once you get it down. Here's a demonstration.

Heart Markers

- Occasionally used to mark where to deposit turn-in items for hearts.

- Used occasionally to mark where items you should pick up are.

- This marker is used all over the place to show you things to interact with for quick heart progress.

- Usually used in combination with heart zones to mark the general area to kill things in.

- Used to denote when you should talk to NPC's for heart completion. Sometimes used with heart zones to denote general area (if the npc's move)

- Occasionally used to point at objects of interest that don't fall under other markers description.

- Used to show hearts that can be instantly completed by buying items off the trading post and turning them into the NPC.

- Often used to show when you can weapon swap to quick cancel actions. Not all use cases are marked, so you can always try and see even if it's not marked.

Heart-Specific Markers

There are some other "Heart-Specific Markers" meaning that they're purposely made for one or two hearts in particular. They can be anything from answers to NPC questions to numbers for an order in which you need to do something.

Trails

- This is the core trail that will lead you to all Points of Interest, Vistas, and Waypoints.

- Alternate colors of the main trail. Blue is obviously the superior choice, but if you disagree you can switch to whatever color you like the best.

- This is an optional heart trail, it's used in like one or two spots where you may need to go to another area to finish the heart you're on.

- These orange zones on the ground will denote "hot spots" for hearts where you can quickly get heart progress.

- This trail will lead you to Hero Points if they are off the main trail.

- Used in the areas (few) that Skyscale is used, as an alternate (quicker) path for those with the mount.

- The aptly named "Trail of Shame". Used for areas where there are difficult or easy to mess up griffon dives. If you mess up the dive, just follow the trail of shame. Don't worry, you'll get it next time!
