Hey! Interesting project. Just chiming in case there's an interest in publishing a Linux build of the project. Because it'd be lovely to have I think

Cheers!

A Linux port is possible! I do have the Linux export module for Game Maker Studio, and a Linux desktop computer

I'm simply waiting until the game is finished to look into a Linux port, for the following reasons:

  • A) I have a full-time job at a local hospital. If ports were part of the weekly update builds, I would lose an hour of my free time exporting/compiling builds, and uploading the game twice to Discord. (Then twice again to GitHub) That's time I would rather have to hustle through more sprites on the to-do list

  • B) There can be bugs unique to any OS. I don't (yet) have the time to fix bugs that could appear on either Windows or Linux builds.

  • C) Studio doesn't make the export process for other OSes as simple as Unity/Godot does, sadly. There has to be a native Linux computer on the local network to send a test build, or a compiled build, to; there is no compiling for Linux now, then letting other users test the package on their computers later. This is the prime pain point, for Point A 💔

  • D) I am the only programmer on the project still, so I can't hand the porting process to another programmer.

Once the story campaign is finished, however, I would love to make Linux builds! In the meantime, the game runs surprisingly well through Wine, (Or Proton on Steam, as well as the Deck) as long as the palette shader is turned off in the Options menu.

That's the only workaround needed until there's a native Linux port that can also use this shader! 💙 I'll keep y'all posted; I've had offers to help out with Mac builds, too

Have a nice afternoon! -Amy
