# Getting started

These instructions will get you through setting up Tigris Data locally as Docker
containers.

# Developing

## Running locally
### Building with Docker Containers

The [docker/local](docker/local) directory contains the docker-compose.yaml
which describes the configuration of Tigris Data components. You can run Tigris Data
in a local environment by executing:
Start local Tigris server listening on `http://localhost:8081` by running:

```shell
cd docker/local
docker-compose up -d
```sh
make run
```
## Connecting using CLI
This would bring dependencies and server up in the docker containers with all
your changes.
Install the CLI:
### Running tests in docker containers
```shell
go install github.com/tigrisdata/tigris-cli@latest
```
Tests are executed using `make test`. This runs both unit and integration
tests. The FoundationDB container auto-generates the cluster file which is
shared between containers using a docker volume.
Make sure to include the installed binary in your PATH.
The docker volume `fdbdata` is mounted at:
Test that Tigris is up and running locally:
* /var/fdb/fdb.cluster in tigris_fdb container
* /etc/foundationdb/fdb.cluster in tigris_test and tigris_server containers,
which is the default location where the client will search for the cluster
file
```shell
export TIGRIS_URL=http://localhost:8081
tigris-cli db list databases
```
### Building and Testing on Apple M1
More elaborate example of CLI usage can be
found [here](https://github.com/tigrisdata/tigris-cli/).
Due to various issues with Docker on Apple M1, it is recommended to install
FoundationDB on the host and run the server on the host directly as well.
Golang client example can be
found [here](https://github.com/tigrisdata/tigris-client-go/).
To run the server on the host, required dependencies need to be installed by
running:
# Documentation
```shell
sh scripts/install_build_deps.sh
sh scripts/install_test_deps.sh
```
* [Development Overview](docs/development/overview.md)
* [Testing](docs/development/testing.md)
* [Configuration](docs/configuration.md)
* [Deployment to Kubernetes](docs/deploy_k8s.md)
Once the dependencies are installed, you can start up the server on the host as
follows:
# Roadmap
* [Alpha Release](https://github.com/orgs/tigrisdata/projects/1/views/1)
```shell
make osx_run
```
# Community & Support
You can run the test on your local machine as follows:
* [Slack Community](https://join.slack.com/t/tigrisdatacommunity/shared_invite/zt-16fn5ogio-OjxJlgttJIV0ZDywcBItJQ)
* [GitHub Issues](https://github.com/tigrisdata/tigris/issues)
* [GitHub Discussions](https://github.com/tigrisdata/tigris/discussions)
```shell
make osx_test
```
