Overview

The SeaChartCreator application supports you with creation on sea map files in KAP format. The KAP files can me used in the openCPN application. The application is based on several python scripts and several external applications.

Requirements

The application was developed and tested on system with following applications:

  • OS: Windows 10
  • python: version 3.5
  • IDE : eclipse oxygen Release 4.7.0
  • MOBAC : 2.0.0
  • OpenCPN: 4.8.0

how to create charts

prepate atlas / charts

  1. Start the MOBAC software
  2. Select a tile server e.g. OpenStreetMap 4UMaps.eu
  3. Select GridZoom 15 in upper area of the shown map
  4. Create New Atlas Content PNG + Worldwide (PNG & PWG)
  5. Set Menue -> Selection -> Selection Mode -> Rectangle
  6. Select "15" in zoom level dialog
  7. Use the Mouse to select a area for single chart
  8. press "add selection" in the "atlas content" dialogue
  9. repeate step 7 and 8 for all charts
  10. save the profile e.g. name = newatlas

note: the atlas will be stored in a xml file located in the mobac software directory (e.g. "C:\tools\Mobile Atlas Creator 2.0.0\mobac-profile-newatlas.xml").

execute python script to generate the KAP files

cd c:\tools\SeeChartCreator C:\tools\SeaChartCreator>c:\tools\Python35\python.exe seamapcreator.py -i "c:\tools\Mobile Atlas Creator 2.0.0\mobac-profile-newatlas.xml"

load and check the generated kap files in openCPN

  1. select Options -> sea charts -> chart files and add directory "C:\tools\SeaChartCreator\work\kap" select charts 2: enjoy the created charts
