sima_boggle

Function:

After each player inputs thier words, the program will: check the validity of each player's words, score their respective lists and declare a winner. Each player will have 2 minutes to input their words as per the rules.

Thoughts behind how I'm going to get this to work:

Necessary input: the number of players per round and each players' words

On the GUI, the users will pick or input their board, input the number of players, and click the start button. Each player will then input their name to start their turn. They will have 2 minutes to enter their words. Their words will be added to an array belonging to their person. (Players must hit enter after each word for it to register.) After each player has gone, the program will compare each word of a player to the other players' lists. If the word belongs to more than half of the players, it gets removed from all lists containing the word. If not, the word is searched for in the Merriam Webster Dictionary. If that word exists, the points gained from that word (based on the word's length) are added to each player that has that word to their respective total score. Users will have the option to chose between 2 scoring methods.

Additional ideas:

  • Allow the user to move between Entry Widgets for the board with their keyboard
  • Cover the Board until the player has inputed their name (no cheating)
  • Maybe show the 10 highest scoring words possible on that board (this may be too complicated)

Questions & Recommended Help:

  • Continue developping boggle_gui.py.
  • How do I search the Merriam Webster Dictionary for the word? How do I rule out all informal or archaic words?
    • A potential option: use this Python wrapper of the Merrian Webster API. You need to get developer keys from here and then take a look at this script, which fetches the definition for a given query (or will return No definitions found for 'word').
  • Need to organize the GUI into classes!! It is starting to become extremely hard to navigate.
