Barcode Support
If you own a handheld barcode scanner you can utilize it for importing orders, adding new parts, searching for inventory or scanning barcodes on your custom part bin labels.
Pages that feature this symbol indicates there are barcode scanning features supported on that page.
DigiKey, Mouser and Arrow all label their parts using a combination of 2D (DotMatrix or PDF-417) and 1D (Code-128) barcodes. Each supplier offers different features and integrates directly with Binner.
2d Dot Matrix Barcode (2d barcode scanner required)
1D Code128 Barcode
2D PDF-417 Barcode (2d barcode scanner required)
For 2d barcodes your barcode scanner needs to support 2d barcodes and also needs to be configured to send the GS/RS codes when outputting a scanned barcode. Many have this enabled by default, but depending on your brand/model you may need to scan a special configuration barcode to enable this - see your scanner's manual for details. If you are unsure if your barcode scanner supports this, visit the Barcode Scanner page in the Tools section and try scanning a part to see the raw data and if GS/RS codes are detected.
Barcode Scanner Diagnostic Tool (Tools => Barcode Scanner)
DigiKey uses different types of barcodes for it's various paperwork and labeling. Packing lists use a standard code-128 barcode as well as 2D Dot Matrix barcodes which can be scanned on the Order Import page. When scanning older 1D barcode part labels (pre-2018) you will need to make sure you have setup api keys for DigiKey as their system must be queried to determine the part information. In fact, enabling the DigiKey api yields much better results as all part metadata will be loaded upon scan.
Many more recent DigiKey parts use a 2D DotMatrix or PDF-417 barcode so you must have a scanner that supports 2D barcodes.
By scanning the 2D Dotmatrix barcode, 1D Code-128 barcode or PDF-417 barcode on a part label you can:
- Search for parts in your inventory on the Search page
- Add new parts to your inventory on the Add Inventory page
- Bulk import new parts on the Add Inventory page
This is a 2D DotMatrix barcode on a standard DigiKey part label.
On the Order Import page you can scan one of your past orders to import all parts in the order at once. To do so, you will need the DigiKey packing list for your order. The invoice doesn't contain the barcodes you want, however you can type in the Sales Order Number manually easily as well.
There are multiple 1D code-128 barcodes, and several 2D DotMatrix barcodes on a standard DigiKey packing list.
The Sales Order number can be scanned (top right) to import the entire - or parts of an order. You can also scan the 2D DotMatrix barcodes which provide the same information.
Additionally, each itemized part can be scanned in the packing list but this is only supported on the Add Inventory page. Note there is a barcode for both the part as well as a smaller barcode for its quantity.
Mouser barcode scanning support is coming in a future release.
Arrow barcode scanning support is coming in a future release.
