WARNING

Multiple early testers suffered flash chip corruption, causing their ASIC to be non-functional.

A few people who were repeatedly uploading numerous test updates ran into a situation where their ASIC would no longer boot. This happened on random versions, and after a random number of updates in each case. As I do not alter the firmware upload process, my suspicion is that either the flash on these models is extra sensitive to power cycling, and/or possibly the large volume of debug logging enabled in those test versions caused instability.

While all 4 machines were recovered, the process to do so requires re-imaging the entire flash chip, which means either desoldering the chip to put it in a programmer, or using expensive (and unreliable) 'chip-on' flashing equipment which costs about $100 (and took a few weeks to receive in my case.)

Regardless, while i have yet to experience this personally despite testing nearly 50 different versions, nor have any of the more recent testers reported problems, I cannot say for certain what caused these failures, nor can I offer a fix if it happens to you.

Changelog

  • Update to the stock firmware for RX0, providing clock and voltage control, an improved interface, and better security, among other features.

Notes

PLEASE READ THE DOCUMENTATION!

The first reboot after installation will take 2+ minutes before the UI is available, as the machine needs to generate TLS certificates for https support.

Disclaimers

Use with caution.

Use of a power meter is highly recommended to monitor PSU load.
