Fixes #5.

Tested

Confirmed that the example in #5 (comment) is now working on the EC2 instance where it previously failed. And, unit tests still pass locally. However, CI is now failing, probably again due to system-dependent numerics. Will fix before merging. Will try to fix the Travis issue before tagging a new release that includes this PR.

I am having trouble logging in to Travis to start a debug build. I'm going to just merge this, and we can wait on tagging a new release until after we figure out the Travis issue.
