This release is not backwards compatible to v1.6 and requires manually requireing the two files that were autoloaded by composer in v1.6 after you require 'vendor/autoload.php.

This version aims to make using carbon-fields v1.6 with composer more painless, allowing to use composer scripts without getting Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Call to undefined function due to WordPress functions not being available.

The v2 branch fixes that issue too and once it is more mature, this version should become obsolete.
