About the PR

Adds a new shuttle, the NC Antfarm, a medium sized dual-purpose food bar and mining hub. The shuttle is vaguely ant shaped and is designed to feed several worker "ants" as they mine asteroids and process the ores. It contains a double sided bar that connects directly to the dock, a kitchen, a mid-sized farm to supply both, ore processing, and some space for relaxation.

This is my first map so I'm sure I missed something.

Why / Balance

The food bar/miner design gives salvagers an opportunity to engage in roleplay after they finish mining and need to refill their characters hunger/thirst. It's a better alternative to the LRP vending machine food spam.

Design:

  • Shaped vaguely like an ant and named accordingly.
  • Has enough solar panels to sit idle while serving food, so taking the time to roleplay is not punished.
  • Has fire doors and fire-fighting equipment on board, in case the chef tries to burn down the place.
  • Front has loading "mandibles" that allows crew to dump ore or short salvaged items, which are conveyed into the center.
  • Cockpit has decent viewing angles

Statistics & Info:

  • Tile count: 393 (medium)
  • Appraisal price: $54,327
  • Shipyard price: $63,250 (~15% markup)
  • Recommended crew: 3-8
  • Available roles: Bartender, Chef, Botanist, Salvage Specialist, Pilot

This is worst, this is giving them even less points to ever visit a food ship, ever.
We removed vending machines not to add back something that make it worst.

Food vending machines still exist last I was on, and I feel it's a little harsh to say this is worse than vending machine spam...

Dont get it wrong the ship is general isnt a bad idea but it goes into the point of having a full shift of never leaving the shuttle to need interaction with food workers at any point

We also removing vending from ships as reworks.

Darin, what might you recommend in order to help this ship become more of a Food Ship (primary) with Light Salvaging (secondary), rather than it coming across as 'just another salvaging ship with extra features'.

It has very little in the way of Cargo space, very intentionally. From what Andrew has said in the mapping channel, part of the inspiration for this ship was to make a "less min-max'd version of a Bulker" - which is a nice goal, I think.

  • It doesn't use an AME
  • Doesn't have a lot of Cargo
  • No crafting capabilities beyond Food
  • No rooms that can easily be converted into Science

If I can buy this ship and use it as a food selling ship then it's not a mining ship or a cargo ship, it's a skipper with a glued pioneer to it.

Pick one please, ships should not fit a full kitchen and botanic as a medium ships unless they are food focused.

Large class can get away with it based on design to some point but a medium ship should not just replace a food ship while having added mining on top like this.

And we got to a point when this issue just getting inflated with more ships like this, why will I ever visit a skipper when I have this types of a ship?

I like the shape of the ship but I'm going to need to think about how fully featured the ship is.

On the one hand you have a restaurant which desires to remain stationary to allow patrons to dock and purchase food to sit and eat. On the other hand you have a mining vessel that desires to be constantly moving from asteroid to asteroid or wreck to wreck.

On top of that, Darin has a point, the ship is a fully featured bar, restaurant, hydroponics, mining, and salvage ship...That's a bit much I think.

I think having a fully featured bar/restaurant/hydroponics would be seen as a positive, as those could've been skimped on like a lot of ships do. I instead made them take up a large portion of the ship to act as a primary feature.

In terms of salvage, there isn't much space to store salvaged stuff, so it's really not great as a salvage ship and I'd argue it just has mining capabilities. You could technically salvage with any ship and there are non-salvage ships with more room for storing that than this.

An alternative idea I could do for this is remove the on-board mining equipment, and leave just the ore processor. That would encourage small mining ships that lack a ore processor to dock with it for food and to process their ore. It's over double Edit: since the Skipper was updated it's now only around 1.5x the price of the skipper and a higher size classification, so I think having an extra feature is justified, and other ships in it's price range have several departments.

Why will you smelt ore next to food.

Why will the food ship let me smelt ore??

Why will you smelt ore next to food.

It's not... your acting like I put the ore processor in the kitchen. This is arguing in bad faith.

Why will the food ship let me smelt ore??

It would be a dual purpose ship acting as a stop for independent miner ships...
