What's new?

New in version …

Add an option to close the pop-up when activating one of the buttons. Thanks to GitHub user kimviens for the feedback.

Visually highlight landmarks when their corresponding buttons in the sidebar (Firefox) or pop-up (all browsers) are focused/hovered. A couple more details…

The page won't scroll when highlighting landmarks in this way, to prevent jumpiness.

The rate at which the highlights are applied/removed is capped, to prevent excessive flashing.

Ensure that the border font size setting can't be left empty (if the user empties it, use the default setting).

It's been a while! This new release brings a huge amount of behind-the-scenes changes that make the extension more robust now, and will make the extension more efficient—and functional—in future. For most browsers, it will look and feel the same as usual for a while longer, but the plan is to build on those changes in due course.

As these changes are technical ones, there's not much new to report, except if you're using Chrome, where the extension now offers a side panel (which continues to be supported in Firefox and Opera). The side panel allows you to view the page's landmarks whilst also navigating around. You can make the panel persistent, and it'll update as you navigate around sites and tabs.

Please note that you may find the minimum width of the side panel too large—this is a Chrome limitation, there's nothing that the Landmarks extension can do to size the panel, though I gather the Chrome team is working on updates to this UI.

For full details, consult the change log.
