Suggestions for how to organize the brainstorming: We could use the following three categories as three original branches. Each is essentially independent of each other. If ideas are borrowed from one to another the presumption is that we'd copy the content of one and build on it independently. If one idea applies to more than one branch it should be duplicated rather than linked.
Ideas for a game not constrained by existing scientific knowledge. Allow for hyper intelligent individualistic ant-like entities, utilizing technology or magic etc. Sources examples include: T.H. White's Book of Merlin, Move: Starship Troopers, Starcraft Zerg, C.J. Cherryh's Serpent's Reach, Also Movies like "A Bug's Life" and "Antz" probably go here or perhaps they are hybrids.

Ideas that prioritize accurately representing/simulating ants in a world very much like our own. Note that plenty of liberties will necessarily be taken to make the simulation "playable" but the source material for every feature in this category should be scientifically based. I'm thinking the game in 1991 SimAnt would have been in this category. SimAnt was itself inspired by the work of E.O. Wilson, Myrmecologist. So there should be a link to some actual science for each feature suggested in this branch.
Not sure this should be a branch of its own. Since in practice every idea in the other two categories is already going to share some characteristics of the other. Let's see how it goes. Maybe Antz and A Bugs Life properly belong here since they don't at least presume another world. However, they pretty much pure fantasy. I'm still at a loss what should go here. Perhaps "Hybrid" simply means "undecided" so every feature in this branch should be reviewed with an aim of eventually moving it to one or both of the other branches after sufficient clarification.
