This paper reports the automated reconstruction of FANC's neurons, synapses, and nuclei using convolutional neural network-based pipelines.

The motor neurons controlling the front legs and the wings were proofread. The muscle target of each motor neuron was also determined by comparing neuroanatomy between electron microscopy, X-ray microscopy, and light microscopy datasets.

A separate repository containing analysis code can be found at https://github.com/tuthill-lab/Azevedo_Lesser_Phelps_Mark_2024. The paper's analysis is based on the state of the FANC connectome on January 17th, 2024 – specifically CAVE materialization v840, which has a timestamp of 1705479001.179472 (use datetime.datetime.fromtimestamp(1705479001.179472, datetime.timezone.utc) in Python).

Proofread motor neuron reconstructions

  • Open up one of the published neuron viewers:
  • In the viewer, use the top-right panel to search for neurons you're interested in.
    • For this paper's neurons, start by clicking the + to the left of Azevedo-Lesser-Phelps-Mark-et-al.-2024.
    • Then click the + or - next to other terms to select or exclude different types of neurons.
  • Once you've finished selecting terms, click the crossed eye icon (see screenshot below) to start loading neurons into your viewer:
