While poking around, I noticed that if I set the style from the preferences window ("help > preferences" in the menu) that this also seems to improve the situation (although the styles appear somewhat dated, aesthetically speaking).

This commit comments out all stylesheet overrides without nuance or full understanding of the ramifications. There may be other ways in which styles can be set that I didn't notice. I see for instance that number boxes don't appear consistent in appearance with the other default styles.

If this is to be the solution to the problem (i.e. just use the default styles), there is probably more work to do. For instance, the styles pane in the preferences window could be removed.

I don't have a system running Mojave, but here's how it looks on my Arch Linux workstation with the darker Fusion theme:
