Is this related to the original owl compositor? https://github.com/owl-compositor/owl
If not, this is a bit confusing to use the same name.

It's not

It would probably be better to pick a distinct name. But this is just IMO, that project is not mine.

i wasn't aware of that project. it does not seem maintained anymore. i will contact its author to see if its okay with him to keep this name and, if not, i will change it.

Well you can try but nonetheless, some unique name would be preferable anyway, if you type hyprland - you get hyprland in first search results, with sway it used to be like that but there's nowadays also microsoft sway so you have to type "linux sway", meanwhile for this project even if I type "linux owl", it gets 3-4th position in search results.

yep, owl is not that unique, i just liked the name :). will open an issue on the original repo, and think about it more later.

@dqrk0jeste We might revive that one, but given is it macOS-only, there is no problem as long as this one does not support macOS.
Or does it, by the way?

no, it does not. but if you want to revive the project then i will for sure change the name. having the two vastly different projects, yet really similar in both naming and description will only confuse the users.

i have talked to the creator of the the other owl, and he wants me to change the name. i will open a discussion for suggestions.
