Backup and restore settings

Wesley Branton edited this page Jan 22, 2025 · 2 revisions

To prevent losing your settings in the event of an issue, it's recommended that you create a backup. This functionality is also useful if you want to transfer your settings to another browser or a different computer.

Backing up settings

A backup of your settings can be downloaded from the Backup / Restore tab on the Custom Scrollbars option page. To save the backup, press the Save button.

You may be asked to grant Custom Scrollbars permission to manage your downloads in your browser. While the backup is not technically a "download" (since all of your settings are already on your computer) Custom Scrollbar needs to be able to manage downloads on your browser so that the backup file can be saved to your computer. For more information on what permissions Custom Scrollbars required, see About Permissions.

Restoring settings

To restore your settings using a backup file, go to the Backup / Restore tab on the Custom Scrollbars option page. Press the Select File button to locate the backup file and then press the Restore button.

Caution

Restoring a backup will erase your existing settings.

Transferring settings to another browser

If you want to tranfer your settings from one browser or computer to another, first create a backup of your settings. Transfer that backup file to the new computer. Now restore the backup on the new computer.

Note

Some customization options are not available on some browsers. When restoring a backup from a different browser (for example, a Google Chrome backup on Firefox), some settings may not match what's available on that browser.
