<p>DHQ is continuing its recruitment of new editorial positions in summer and fall 2022 with the following calls for participation:</p>

<p>Please see the individual calls (listed below) for details about the specific roles and responsibilities of each position. All of these are volunteer positions within the DHQ editorial team, for an initial (renewable) term of three years. </p>
<p>If you are interested in volunteering for one of these positions, please submit a one-page statement describing your interest in the position and your vision for how you would contribute to DHQ’s mission, along with a copy of your CV. We are especially interested in recruiting a diverse editorial team, and in candidates who can contribute a global perspective on the DH field. We encourage applications from people working in all different capacities including staff, students, and faculty, within and outside the academy. Statements and CVs can be uploaded via <a href="https://forms.gle/1vU86wV9wu55pv9N9">Google form</a>. We’ll follow up with candidates to schedule a short interview via Zoom.</p>

<h3 id="dh_projects">Digital Humanities Projects Editor</h3>
<p>The inaugural position of Digital Humanities Projects Editor is a volunteer position on the Digital Humanities Quarterly (DHQ) editorial team. The editor will be responsible for leading an initiative to establish a registry of digital humanities projects, potentially in collaboration with other digital humanities initiatives and organizations. Through this commitment to creating and maintaining a project registry, DHQ will improve the discoverability of work in the digital humanities and inform the broader DH community of trends in DH scholarship. For this role, DHQ seeks a volunteer possessing a familiarity with metadata and encoding, an interest in field-level analysis of the digital humanities, a passion for DHQ’s mission and digital humanities scholarship, and experience working in a collaborative environment.

<p>Responsibilities include:</p>
<ul>
<li>Creating a plan for maintaining a registry of DH projects.</li>
<li>Creating standards for encoding DH projects in the registry (wikidata, etc.).</li>
<li>Collaborating with related organizations and journals on the potential development of a joint project registry.</li>
<li>Developing pathways for people to contribute DH projects for the registry.</li>
<li>Working with the social media editors to solicit calls for DH projects to register.</li>
<li>Developing a methodology for identifying historic DH projects.</li>
<li>Working with the data analytics editors to identify trends in DH scholarship using the project registry.</li>
<li>Establishing guidelines for maintaining the registry.</li>
</ul>
<h3 id="indexing">Indexing and Metadata Editor</h3>
<p>The DHQ Indexing and Metadata Editor is a volunteer position on the DHQ editorial team. All DHQ editorial positions serve for a renewable term of three years. The Indexing Editor is responsible for overseeing DHQ’s presence in public indexes (such as Web of Science) and finding ways of increasing the journal’s citation, Impact Factor (IF), and other metrics of impact. This will include identifying emerging indexes and impact metrics, making sure DHQ is listed on the important ones, and maintaining current information for authors and readers on the DHQ website. <p>Responsibilities include:</p>
<ul>
<li>Research and strategic planning concerning appropriate indexing metrics and services for DHQ</li>
<li>Awareness of how our data is used in Google Scholar and other points of access</li><li>
Uploading DHQ data and metadata to indexing sites as necessary</li>
<li>Liasoning with representatives of indexing agencies to be updated on new or evolving parameters</li>
<li>Outreach to other DH journals to develop metrics and alt-metrics strategies</li>
<li>Tracking DHQ’s citation analytics and metrics, and reporting these as needed to DHQ’s funding sources, editorial team, and authors</li>
<li>Working with the data analytics group to create visualisations of our citations/indexing/metrics, and coordinating with the outreach team to circulate these</li>
<li>Developing an understanding of how different indexing metrics are computed and communicating these findings to the DHQ editorial team</li>
<li>Understanding the relationship between indexing and search engine optimization (SEO) and working with the Technical editor to implement necessary changes to the DHQ publication
</li>
</ul>
<h3 id="communications">Communications and Outreach Editor</h3>
<p>The DHQ Communications and Outreach Editor is a volunteer position on the DHQ editorial
team, with responsibility for increasing the visibility of DHQ on social media platforms
(particularly Twitter) and encourage engagement with the journal. All DHQ editorial
positions serve for a renewable term of three years. The Communications and Outreach Editor is
responsible for articulating and implementing a coordinated social media strategy,
producing content, engaging with audience(s), tracking metrics and analytics on Twitter,
and amplifying content, information, and messages from our partners the Association for
Communities and the Humanities (ACH) and Alliance for Digital Humanities Organizations
(ADHO). This role requires keen communication capabilities, a passion for DHQ’s mission
and digital humanities scholarship, excellent organization skills, familiarity with
tracking and interpreting social media metrics, and expertise with creating engaging and
thoughtful content. </p>
<p>Responsibilities include:</p>
<ul>
<li>Representing DHQ’s account on social media (Twitter)</li>
<li>Strategic planning and assessment of DHQ’s social media presence and
communications</li>
<li>Monitoring social media discussion of DHQ and responding as needed</li>
<li>Announcing DHQ special issues, CFPs, other calls, and milestones on Twitter </li>
<li>Tracking DHQ’s Twitter analytics and metrics </li>
<li>Articulating weekly and monthly Twitter posting strategies to increase
invisibility</li>
<li>Serving as a media liaison between ACH and ADHO, amplifying their messages</li>
<li>Producing social media graphics </li>
<li>Participating in DHQ editorial meetings</li>
</ul>

<h3 id="data_analytics">Data Analytics Editor</h3>
<p>The DHQ Data Analytics Editor is a volunteer position on the DHQ editorial team. The
editor will be responsible for pioneering DHQ’s efforts to incorporate data analytics
into the journal’s operations. Through this commitment to data analytics under the
leadership of this position, DHQ seeks to improve access to its articles, identify
trends in scholarship supported by the journal, and invite the broader scholarly
community to shape the future of digital humanities in light of these trends. All DHQ editorial positions serve for a renewable term of three years.</p>
<p>Responsibilities include:</p>
<ul>
<li>Constructing, analyzing, and visualizing datasets pertaining to the journal. Such
datasets include XML corpora of published DHQ articles, extracted features datasets
to aid with search and recommendation, and datasets contributed by DHQ contributors
and researchers.</li>
<li> Piloting new affordances pertaining to the discoverability of articles on the DHQ
website. Examples include automatedly extracted keywords that highlight article
content, as well as a “find similar articles” feature powered by text analysis or
citation-based similarity metrics.</li>
<li> Utilizing metadata analysis, textual analysis, and data visualization in order to
identify the landscape of research that DHQ has supported, as well as areas that DHQ
could better support in the future.</li>
<li> Documenting data analysis efforts through blog posts on the DHQ website in order to
make the results publicly available, as well as set a precedent for the broader DH
community.</li>
<li> Inviting the broader scholarly community to shape the future of digital humanities
in response to this work through special issues and other modes of contribution,
such as periodic challenges for new analysis and research.</li>
<li> Collaborating with the DHQ editorial team to help construct positions and
initiatives such as DHQ residencies for scholars to carry out their own data
analysis efforts, or efforts surrounding born-digital content, including not only
scholarship pertaining to born-digital documents (such as web archives) but also
methods for archiving DH projects available online. </li>
<li>Participating in DHQ editorial meetings</li>
</ul>

<h3 id="collaborative_development">Collaborative Development Editor</h3>
<p>The DHQ Collaborative Development Editor is a volunteer position within the DHQ editorial
team, with responsibility for overseeing DHQ’s GitHub repositories and their use in both
internal and public-facing collaborative workflows. All DHQ editorial positions serve
for a renewable term of three years. DHQ collaborative work includes encoding of articles (by
editors and authors), updates and corrections to journal data, maintenance and
development of publication code and stylesheets, development of new interface features,
and incorporation of third-party code repositories. </p>
<p>Responsibilities include:</p>
<ul>
<li>overseeing DHQ’s GitHub repositories, and ensuring that DHQ uses GitHub
appropriately and effectively to support internal and public-facing collaborative
development</li>
<li>helping to coordinate periodic collaborative development events</li>
<li>coordinating or performing code review on pull requests, and merging into the main
DHQ branch</li>
<li>contributing to internal and public-facing documentation of DHQ technical systems,
to support collaboration within DHQ and between DHQ and other groups </li>
<li>participating in DHQ editorial meetings</li>
</ul>


<h3 id="peer_reviews">Peer Reviews Editor</h3>
<p>The DHQ Peer Reviews Editor is a volunteer position on the DHQ editorial team, with
responsibility for recruiting and leadership of DHQ’s peer reviewer community. This
position works closely with DHQ’s peer reviewers to support their role in the
publication process, and helps ensure that DHQ has a substantial and enthusiastic
reviewer pool representing the full range of fields and expertise needed as well as
broad geographic and demographic diversity. All DHQ editorial positions serve for a renewable term
of three years. </p>
<p>Responsibilities include:</p>
<ul>
<li>contributing to DHQ’s strategic planning and long-term vision for the role peer
review plays and how it should be conducted</li>
<li>monitoring DHQ’s reviewer database in DHQ’s Open Journal Systems installation to
maintain current knowledge of the balance of fields, geographical scope, and
diversity, and to ensure that reviewer expertise is usefully represented (so that
reviewers are discoverable via appropriate keywords)</li>
<li>being familiar with OJS and its reviewer management component, and providing
regular statistics and insights on reviewer activity to the editorial board</li>
<li>working with the managing editors, editorial board, advisory board, and other
contacts to organize the recruitment of additional reviewers as needed to support
the journal’s reviewing needs as those evolve</li>
<li>communicating regularly with reviewers as needed to convey appreciation, get input
on the review process, and identify reviewers who no longer wish to participate
</li>
<li>participating in DHQ editorial meetings</li>
</ul>



<h2>Suspension of Winter 2022 submission deadline</h2>
<p>December 2021</p>
<p>DHQ will be suspending its January 2022 submission deadline, to give the journal an opportunity to focus its resources on essential production work during the disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic. We will reopen submissions with our April 2022 submission deadline. The journal's publication schedule will be uninterrupted. We are grateful to potential authors for their understanding!</p>
