To enjoy a parallelization speed-up in CPU mode, install a multi-threaded BLAS library such as OpenBLAS:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:marutter/rdev
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install libopenblas-base

The only exception being the google logging library, which does not exist in the Ubuntu 12.04 repository. To install it, do:
