GDB: XML disabled at compile time?

GDB reports that XML was disabled at compile time:

What is the reason behind this, and what would it take to re-enable it?

I have an old SiFive gdb GNU gdb (SiFive GDB 8.3.0-2019.08.0) 8.3 that has it enabled, but GNU gdb (xPack GNU RISC-V Embedded GCC x86_64) 12.1 does not have it enabled.

Did SiFive disable it at some point? The Issue Template notes that xPack won't add any new features that SiFive doesn't enable, and that xPack doesn't actually build anything themselves as xPack is just redistributing SiFive binaries, and it's not clear how to open an issue to get SiFive to re-enable the feature.

This looks like an issue in the build script.

Can you provide more details on your environment, in order to reproduce the issue? What version of the xPack and what OS?

The Issue Template notes that xPack won't add any new features that SiFive doesn't enable...

The issue template needs an update, SiFive no longer makes their build scripts public and the xPack distribution now uses the sources from GNU.

I take from this that you are using the GNU/Linux Intel binaries.

Depending on the environment, it's either x86_64-w64-mingw32 or x86_64-pc-linux-gnu (i.e. either Linux or Windows). Both exhibit the s ame symptoms.

Actually, it seems to have been fixed in 12.2.0-3 -- it wasn't working before, e.g. in 12.1.0-2.
