Hello, world.

Gold Cart was really one of the very first "premium" plugins for WordPress.

By premium, I don't mean great code, as can be easily seen. I mean that it was one of the first plugins that was for sale that hooked into filters and actions inside of a free plugin.

It is time to EOL Gold Cart, lovely though it has been. From its foundations, it was not a good plan to bundle so much together so unsustainably. It was "Jetpack" before there was a Jetpack. The thing about Jetpack is that everything in it is done pretty well, and at a more or less basic level. Simplicity, executed well, is what makes Jetpack work.

Though the idea for Gold Cart is the same - we lack three things that Jetpack has:

  1. Long-term vision for sustainability
  2. Simplicity in modular elements
  3. General excellence in execution.

Gold Cart has served WP eCommerce well as the flagship product for nearly ten years, but it's time to look forward to a more sustainable future with a a better and brighter long-term vision.

Gold Cart will reach end-of-life at the end of 2015. At that point, we will stop selling it on wpecommerce.org. By that time, all features in Gold Cart will be broken out and refactored as individual products. All current Gold Cart users will receive security and maintenance updates to Gold Cart through the end of 2016, as well as generous discounts towards the purchase of the analogous products that they were making use of in Gold Cart.

This is the only way for us to keep moving forward and innovating in the premium plugin space, which we're more excited than ever about.
