🇬🇧➡️🇫🇷 Helsinki-NLP/opus-mt-en-fr
I recommend you check out the Language Technology Research Group at the University of Helsinki as they produce quite a lot of translation models that work quite nicely.
For me the most useful is their
opus-mt-en-fr
as it allows me to translate large quantities of English data readily available into French which is more sparse. It works better than the default model as it is specialised in the translation pipeline "en-2-fr".As an example, I have translated ehartford/samantha-data into french using this model. You can see the translated sentences which I have repackaged for Chain-of-Thought (CoT) over at wasertech/samantha-data-cot-fr.
Have a look at their library on the Hub and let us know which one you prefer and why! This is sure to be useful to someone else too.
Feel free to create a new discussion if needed, to have one conversation for each model.
