Using MOD1 as an Envelope Generator

by Steven Barsky

Learn how to set up MOD1 as an Envelope Generator that modulates the level of Braids output.

This lesson assumes that you have performed a Default Reset as described in Installation and De-installation guide for Bees in the trees before starting this exercise. Detailed information on all of the Bees in the Trees functionality is also available on this page.

Apply a trigger signal to the TRIG input

  1. Press and release the Edit knob to enter Settings mode
  • Turn Edit knob clockwise until you see LEVL
  • Press Edit knob to edit the LEVL value
  • Turn Edit knob anti clockwise until the Level is 0
  • Press Edit knob to exit LEVL value edit
  1. Turn Edit knob clockwise until you see MOD1
  • Press Edit knob to edit the MOD1 value
  • Turn Edit knob clockwise until the Modulator mode is ENV+
  • Press Edit knob to exit edit mode
  1. Turn Edit knob clockwise until you see RAT1
  • Press Edit knob to edit the RAT1 value
  • Turn Edit knob anti clockwise until the Rate is 50

  1. Turn Edit knob clockwise until you see ⇑⇓1
  • Press Edit knob to edit the ⇑⇓1 value
  • Turn Edit knob anti clockwise until ⇑⇓1 is 0
  • Press Edit knob to exit edit mode
  1. Turn Edit knob clockwise until you see M1→L
  • Press Edit knob to edit the M1→L value
  • Turn Edit knob anti clockwise until M1→L is 127
  • Press Edit knob to exit edit mode

Now, every time a trigger is applied Braids output level will rise and fall at the rate set by RAT1 based upon the waveform symmetry set in ⇑⇓1.

Things to play with:

  • RAT1 sets the Decay time of the envelope
  • ⇑SH1 & ⇓SH1 set the shape of the rising and falling sides of the waveform
  • ⇑⇓1 sets the symmetry of the envelope waveform
