This feature is actually already in Furnace with its built-in file picker If you go to Settings > General > Use system file picker and uncheck the box, then you can preview instruments without refocusing the tracker. One slight downside to this is that, with Furnace's file picker, you have to use the mouse to select instruments |

Here's a link to show exactly how I'd like it to be added.
Most useful with FM.
So yes, this feature is partly added in current version now. You can select a instrument and furnace will load it before you click "Open" button.
Hence you can test it "before" loading.
But it's not complete yet, the act of popping out the "Open" window means you need to click on the Furnace window to focuses it before you can type on your keyboard, else Windows will greet you with "do~wah~~".
I didn't plug in my midi keyboard to test if this behavior exists when using it. I assume not.
So is it possible to make a subwindow within the furnace main window that behaves like the AdLib Tracker II Open iNstrument window?
Where you can type keys to hear the iNstrument and use cursor keys to move the highlight to change it what you want to test.
Also, the OPM and OPN instruments won't make a noise if target chip is not present.
For now, I'll add a dummy OPN chip for now just for ease of testing.
But if adding on the fly testing, I wish for an auto conversion if target chip is not there and there is a OPM.
Which is a topic I saw in some of the OLD discussions, so I won't be repetitive.
Thank you for your consideration and your amazing tracker.
edit:
Thanks to Toonlink8101, most of the problem went away.
So now it's only a life quality improvement to add cursor keys to move highlight.
