Continuing the theme, export TT_METAL_HOME=$(pwd) shouldn't be required; if scripts really need it then ./build_metal.sh can determine its own path and burn that into whatever build scripts it generates.
export TT_METAL_HOME=$(pwd)
./build_metal.sh

TT_METAL_HOME is actually a runtime requirement, not a build time requirement, so build_metal.sh has nothing to do with it.
TT_METAL_HOME
It is an environment variable though, and no one likes those. So maybe we can still track this as a runtime ENV to remove if possible.
