Localized Taxonomy Handles in URLs

Hi everyone,

I have a collection called “products” and a linked taxonomy “manufacturer” on my client’s website, which is available as a multisite setup in English, German, and Italian.

The template for a taxonomy term is handled by the file views/products/manufacturer/show.antlers.html.

Now, the client’s SEO agency has requested localized permalinks. For example /products/manufacturer/adidas should become:

• /de/produkte/hersteller/adidas in German, and
• /it/prodotti/produttore/adidas in Italian.

When I translate the collection handle, it works fine (I assume because the collection is mounted to the “Products” page?). However, when I try to translate the taxonomy handle, it results in a 404 error—unsurprisingly, because I have no idea where to configure the translation for the taxonomy handle.

Does anyone know how to achieve this? Is it possible without custom routes?
