When trying to use DSMapStudio at 3840x2160 resolution and 200% scale, none of the text is legible making the app unusable.
I was able to solve this problem by lowering the resolution/scale (System Settings>Display>Display resolution/Scale) which wasn't obvious at the time, and no search online brought up anything relevant. Hopefully this will help anyone else experiencing this issue with no clue how to fix it and also bring attention to it.

Can you clarify what you mean by "lowering the resolution"?
Usually, to my understanding, this occurs when someone takes the ui scaling setting to some threshhold value
If this has some other cause, like desktop scaling, other DPI settings, or even upscaled resolutions that would be very helpful to know.
I went to System settings>Display>Display resolution and changed the value below 3840x2160. This is with a clean install, not having made any changes to the tool's settings. My mistake, my system had defaulted the scale of text and etc. to 200% and I had completely overlooked it. Now knowing this I've tested combinations and it seems that 4k resolution and ~200% text scaling is where the text stops working. Lowering either one fixes it.
