Couldn't add data source #2001

Which version of Autopsy are you running? Are you able to look into the Autopsy logs to see if there are any exceptions or SEVERE error messages logged? If you are using Autopsy 4.0.0, did a previous version of Autopsy (3.X.X) work for you on the machines mentioned? |
I am running Autopsy 4.0.0. Yes I have found SEVERE erros in autopsy.log.0: |
I apologize for the delay in getting back to you. Thank you for the additional information. Would it be possible for you to attach the autopsy log with traces so that we might analyze the problem further? |
Any progress toward resolution, Chilli? |
Same problem :( autopsy.log.0Sun Jun 18 18:24:50 MSK 2017 org.sleuthkit.autopsy.keywordsearch.Server isRunning autopsy_traces.log.02017-06-18 18:24:50.312 org.sleuthkit.autopsy.keywordsearch.Server isRunning |
I also found same bug. |
@lv7777, did you get a specific error message? There are a variety or reasons that a case can't be created and I can't tell from the three people on this ticket now if they are the same or not. Did you have any Japanese characters in the case path or the path that Autopsy was installed into? The original issue from @likangqi666 seemed to have been caused by creating a Solr core for keyword search. We don't have enough information to track that down though. Did any of the paths have Chinese characters in them? I noticed you said that the OSes were Chinese. @NinaNVY doesn't seem to have any errors in the logs. Did you see the same behavior of not getting the "Add Data Source" wizard after creating a case and not being able to get the dialog open after pressing the button? @lv7777, same |
Same problem. |
@bcarrier 2018-01-29 17:25:19.962 org.sleuthkit.autopsy.coreutils.UNCPathUtilities getMappedDrives |
@jimmyzero3, is your setup 32-bit? Were you offline as well? @Rumpelstiltskin , do you see the same 'net use' error? |
@bcarrier I'm guessing maybe it's because of somewhere else in the disk have non-English path? Update: |
@bcarrier |
@Rumpelstiltskin, is your user name or any folder in the case name / directory have cyrillic? |
Any update in such error ? Seems each of Autopsy got same issue when Windows user are not English - if got any other Unicode letter in User Windows account it's simply "hangs" on Add Data source". Let me know if this can be repaired soon as a fix ? |
@Bolo5 : can you look in your logs to see if there are any stack traces that could be useful? As Rishwanth just posted, if he has an English version of Windows configured with a non-Latin character in the name, he can't even start Autopsy. This is all happening in the NetBeans code that we build on top of. Any insight / stack traces from the logs you could provide would be helpful for us to start looking. |
Sure - what exactly information you need ? |
We have been able to recreate this. No obvious log messages that are causing errors and here is the thread dump. No obvious Autopsy methods in here. This happened after pressing "Add Data Source" wizard button, but the wizard never showed up.
|
You think that this issue can be solved in next relase ? |
I have been confused about whether or not my devices have been hacked or not. If not, then I will no longer interfere with the project, and I apologize.

This should have been somewhat fixed in #3864, which was in the 4.8.0 release. Jython seemed to have issues with the non-Latin characters. The fix in that PR was to better handle the exception. So, in 4.8.0, you may not be able to load Python modules, but you will be able to run Autopsy overall. Please confirm that it now works. Thanks. |

OS: Windows 10
JDK version: Java SE Development Kit 8u73
Problem description: After I create one new case, or open one existing case, it is unable to add data source. There should be a window bumping out for user to select data source but it never happens. Moreover, nothing happens when I click "add data source" button.
This also happens on another laptop with Windows 8. Both of these OS are in Chinese.
