Introducing "channels" / "branches" configurations would be very helpful.
i.e.

  "plugins": [
    "@semantic-release/commit-analyzer",
    "@semantic-release/release-notes-generator",
    "@semantic-release/npm",
    ["@semantic-release/changelog", {
       "branches": ["main"]
    }],
    "@semantic-release/git"
  ]

Would only update the changelog when publishing from the branch main
