I got the error "system not responding" in the middle of the backup process a few weeks ago.
I tried taking a screenshot but couldn't, and after a minute or so everything worked again.
More recently, it's my lock screen's touch screen which would not respond in the middle of a backup process. I had terrible trouble logging in, but after a few minutes all functioned smoothly again.
Using seedvault 14-5.2 on CalyxOS 5.14.2 to backup to a dual USB-USB-C sandisk 3.1 disk in fat32 on a fairphone 5. I have a work profile set up, which I backup on the same disk, but those things happened while my main profile was backing up.

From the logs it looks like a 3rd party app is hammering the system hard, causing ANRs and lots of DeadObjectExceptions. Didn't see anything related to Seedvault.
Was this a singular incident or happened more frequently? If so, please try uninstalling the offending app.
