Period inserted in code editor after typing a space

Noticed this in the code editor in main and also in the message box in #133 :

I thought it might have been an ::after selector setting content or something with the react-simple-code-editor package, but I think it's actually a macOS "feature" that I've just never noticed:

I don't know if there's much we can do about it, but I wanted to document it in case someone else notices it.
