Application icons in panel not updating #740

It seems like application icons in the panel do not update when their status changes. For example, my password manager always shows locked, even when it's unlocked. Just now I installed my vpn client, and the panel reloaded all icons, and now the password manager is stuck on the unlocked icon, even though it is locked, as I can see by the status of the browser extension which connects to the desktop app. My vpn client is showing it's disconnected, while in reality it's connected.

One thing I'd like to add is that I found out that both programs run on Xwayland. I don't have any programs (yet) which run on Wayland that also put icons in the panel. Once I find some I use that do, I'll update here.

This is most likely an issue with the status area applet, so I'll transfer it to the applets repo.
