Improve Polar badge on issues

Going to work on improving the Polar badge on issues, e.g

Starting with changing the term "Back issue". It's too vague and unclear. Would love your input on other options before shipping.

Don't hesitate to also share any other feedback or suggestions on how this can be improved.

Sponsor issue is less confusing except for certain business terms that we discussed on Discord:

• When is the pledged/sponsored amount reserved?
• When will the amount be returned if the issue stays open?

Something like Pledge or Pledge issue is more in line with current Polar wording as seen in the following image.

Absolutely. I think we should opt for the most intuitive wording that people understand without explanation, e.g Sponsor issue or Fund this issue. Separately, we need to do a better job documenting and sharing the internal workings. For instance by updating the default explanation upon embed to something like:

Fund this issue

We're using Polar so you can help upvote and fund the development of impactful issues. How does it work?

• You pay the contribution today.
• Polar holds the money until the issue is completed.
• You're notified once it's completed and have time to review it.
• We receive the funds unless there is a dispute.

Of course, we can and should clarify even more, but I think we take that on the Polar funding page vs. have too much text embedded on issues. Just the important high-level flow.

I think the transparency in the texts above work well for introducing unfamiliar concepts, platforms, and eliminating doubt about these.

what about "Fund this issue"?

I like it. In fact, we played around with that as a version a while back.

The reason I like it is that it solves for three important considerations of mine here:

1. It's intuitive standalone.
2. It's not easily confused with existing mechanisms, e.g sponsor.
3. Word does not signal a guarantee, e.g "Pay for".

So why did we go with "Back" and "Pledge"? Honestly, I looked at Kickstarter and others for inspiration. Kickstarter calls it "pledges", but the call-to-action to make one is "Back this project". So opted for "Back" in haste (my bad).

I still prefer to call the individual funds themselves as "pledges". I think that should be used in contexts of "You've received X pledges" when communicating the amount of such activities. Then using "Fund" or "Funding" in context of amounts. Or in this setting, i.e "Fund a fix". Looking at Kickstarter again they use the same model between "pledges" and "funded" on the homepage.

I think we should go with this and the update to the embed context shared above in the discussion with @LayZeeDK. It's going to be a big improvement to the current version.

Truly sorry for not circling back with an update sooner on this @patrick91 @LayZeeDK! Shipped updates to the pledge page a week ago to reflect "Fund" vs. "Pledge" and the badge is now updated too.

The messaging surrounding the badge is not. Working on that separately; it turned out to be a bit more involved. Will ship it asap, but you can definitely change it on your own organizations within Polar settings at any time to what you see fit.

I shortened it down a bit. Initial proposal became a bit too verbose and long. We're going to do a lot of improvements to the funding page itself where a lot of the context, information & FAQ should live. Ensuring your issues don't have to have a lot of text in them from Polar.
