I think the only solution here is an external temp sensor. The LEDs generate a significant amount of heat even if the board is not on a Pi. The Pimoroni "Things" Coupe Case does not have a cutout above the CPU , but even with that and LEDs off, I am reading well above room-temp.
I have just done a quick test with the 4 digit display, and it added 5c to the temperature. The high powered RGB LEDs would be similar. The Pi SOC would add a lot more than that.
