[Proposal] LFX Mentorships for OpenSSF Projects

I was reviewing the LFX Mentorship programs and was wondering if anyone from LF Staff or TAC knows what it would take to get OpenSSF projects approved for mentorships? It may be super straight forward and easy but, I'm not sure.

If it's possible, I would be interested in helping Technical Initiatives on mentorship proposals and navigating the process.

For anyone unfamiliar with the program, there's great background here.

Hey @jkjell @SecurityCRob I'm so interested in contributing to OpenSSF under LFX mentorship. Is there any progress on this issue ?

With the end-of-year holidays, most of the TAC and our members were out spending time with friends and family. The TAC will officially discuss this as a group ion 9Jan, but commentary here asynchronously is always welcome and appreciated.

I think more information is needed about how to get the OpenSSF listed as one of the mentorship programs, but it looks like individuals can register as mentors at https://mentorship.lfx.linuxfoundation.org/participate/mentor and individual OpenSSF Projects can register as programs at https://mentorship.lfx.linuxfoundation.org/participate/maintainer.

Project submission and application timeline:

project proposals due: Jan 24, 2024

mentee applications open: Jan 29 - Feb 13, 2024

application review/admission decisions/HR paperwork: Feb 14 - 27, 2023

We will revive this in Q4 and apply for the 2025 program.
