We could use a google docs Iframe by uploading the file to google docs, and download it again into janeway once edit session is complete:
https://developers.google.com/drive/api/v3/manage-uploads
We need to workout how to combine janeway's permissions with the google drive ones.

Another option would be converting the DOCX to HTML and using an HTML editor... enable/disable on a journal by journal basis... we could allow the author to tidy up the submission before completing...

There is a consortium looking into GROBID so we could use DOCX -> GROBID -> Substance Texture...
