Progressive Web Application (PWA) is a term first coined by Chrome developers in 2015.

Since then, PWAs have gained popularity across many big tech companies, promising (and delivering) improvements on performance and user experience, leading to higher user retention. The offline capabilities it offers through caching also makes it far more versatile than the traditional web applications, which require network connection to work.
