PUMA outline:

Audience: fellow CS3281/2 students
Punch: Loss of file scenario
WIIFY: You can recover lost files

Promise:

  • Learn how to recover data
  • Why it works
  • How it works
  • Why it does not work 100% of the time

Know:

  • Tools available
  • Data recovery is possible because files are not deleted
  • Data recovery works using file signatures
  • Improved methods like bifragment gap carving exist, but still has limitations

Believe: Data recovery is easy
Do: Cope well and recover data when files are lost
