USPS Mail Delivered… Not updating?

One of the entities in M&P is binary_sensor.usps_mail_delivered. I interpret that as a flag that gets set when USPS Informed Delivery notifies me that the carrier has delivered mail… (not packages.) I can’t really find any documentation for this.

Daily, I get an email titled “Your Mail Was Delivered DAY, Mon DD“ from USPS Informed Delivery [[email protected]], the body of which simply states that my mail has been delivered.

It would stand to reason that receipt of that email would update the binary sensor that would indicate that “USPS Mail Delivered” - but seemingly not, as that binary sensor has never changed from false.

Am I missing something? It would be powerful to actually be able to capture when the carrier has delivered the USPS mail.

And apologies in advance if this is an obvious one that I have simply overlooked!

Unless the subject states "Your Mail Was Delivered" it'll not turn on.

I haven't seen USPS email with mail delivery notification, is it something new?

Yes it's an option apparently in informed delivery settings, if it's available in your area.
It's not available in my area.

I’ve gone back and reviewed the email and I’m pretty certain it aligns to the format required in const.py. I’ve attached a snapshot of the email, here. The sensor is not being flipped as a result of this email. I’ve tried to turn debug logging on, but I’m not seeing the detail I would expect to share with the team here.

Maybe I’m not finding the logs correctly? I’m going to Home Assistant Core, selecting “Raw Logs” and searching for USPS. I just reloaded and still see only this:

That's the only log, double check to make sure you have the sensor enabled, there's a checkbox for it should be named something like "USPS Mail Delivered" in the configuration menu.

Yes, it is now confirmed: I’m an idiot. I assumed because I could SEE the sensor that it had been configured correctly. Bad assumption; now turned on.

Let’s see what happens when today’s mail arrives. I’ll follow up here be EOD. Thank you for your patience with me.

To be fair, the addition of the Mail Delivered sensor was only just fixed in the latest beta 😛

Just to clean up and for others

This issue was resolved in 0.4.3-b0. Do ensure that the proper Mail Delivered sensor is enabled in config.
