GENERATION of a new bathymetry file
--------------------------------------
June 2005, Anne Marie Treguier
1 - Phase 1: interpolation of ETOPO2 and GEBCO 1mn onto the ORCA025 GRID.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
directory: INTERP0
program batinterpnew rewritten in june 2005.
result: ORCA025_etopo2_june2005.nc (etopo2). Variable of interest is bathymetry,
It is zero on land and positive in the ocean.
ORCA025_gebco1_june2005.nc (gebco1). Variable of interest is bathymetry,
It is zero on land and positive in the ocean.
2 - Phase 2: Smoothing etopo2, keep the land points current.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
directory: SMOOTHING.
we use of a shapiro filter, two passes, weight = 0.6
remark: with compiler ifort, need 'limit stacksize 500000'!
output file: ORCA025_etopo2_june2005_smooth_shapiro2.nc
Bathymetry is positive in this file.
3 - Phase 3: Combine etopo2 and gebco1.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
where bathy gebco < 200m, keep gebco.
where bathy gebco > 200m and < 300m, take a linear ramp between
gebco and etopo2.
directory COMBINE
we need for input both ORCA025_gebco1_june2005.nc (remember to take into account polar
regions with no gebco data), and ORCA025_etopo2_june2005_smooth_shapiro2.nc
(result of the smoothing step above).
Ouput file: ORCA025_combined_etopo_gebco_nocoast_june2005.nc
4 - Phase 4: apply coastline
--------------------------------------
Directory APPLYCOAST
INPUT files:
( coast_original_ORCA_R025.a: is an ascii file provided by the MERCATOR team).
- coast_ORCA_R025_drakkar.ascii: an edited file with a few grid points changed.
a few sea grid point removed from Asia;
one grid point at the tip of Cape St Vincent changed from land to ocean.
- ../ORCA025_combined_combined_etopo_gebco_nocoast_june2005.nc:
bathymetry in "meters" obtained by combination of etopo2 and gebco1
OUTPUT file:
- ORCA025_combined_etopo_gebco_coast_june2005.nc
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
JUNE 2005
5 - Phase 5: apply hand corrections.
NOTE: Ariane has modified coastlines in the region of Indonesia!!!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Directory: CORRECT
treatment: a fortran program reads the bathymetry, includes the
"journal" file that changes individual grid points values,
then rewrites a new bathy.
INPUT file:
- ORCA025_combined_etopo_gebco_coast_june2005.nc
- orca025_hand_modif_april05.h90 (merge of my old hand correction file with Ariane's)
OUTPUT FILE:
ORCA025_combined_etopo_gebco_coast_corrected_june2005.nc
