Describe the bug
Claude requests the wrong tool 3x in a row despite clear, explicit instructions/corrections
Please start with the list_allowed_directories tool (filesystem) to find the files mentioned:
-I deny the wrong tool request, so it proceeds anyway.
-I explain there are multiple versions, and which one is correct.
-It requests the identical tool I just said was incorrect, then a differently named one.
-I give it a screenshot from it's own tool list with "from server: filesystem"
-It asks to use the wrong tool FOR THE THIRD TIME IN A ROW.
To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:
Install both filesystem and desktop-commander servers.
ask it to use list_allowed_directories (filesystem)
This might not reproduce with a small number of tools.
Expected behavior
-Pick the right tool.
-Ask for clarification when explicit instructions for tool use are made, but the request denied (instead of attempting a full answer anyway.)
Suggestions for improvement
-When there are multiple tools with the same name, make them selectable in the tool request.
-When the specific server isn't mentioned, prioritize tools by the order the servers appear in the .json
-Roo Cline groups MCP tools by servers. Each server can be expanded/collapsed. Servers can be disabled/enabled from the UI without deleting them from the .json file. This is far more sensible than Claude Desktop.
Additional context
-It has requested the wrong (duplicate) tool before, but not after 3 clarifications.
-I have 215 tools available, the list is a mess with no grouping of tools by server name, text filter, or even a vertical scrollbar.
