I have installed audiobook shelf in the Program directory. If I try to install an update, it gives me an error say insufficient permissions. Normally, most programs trigger a popup to provide administrator permission.
The installation runs normally if I run it as administrator.
This happened with v2.17.2 and v2.17.1

When you say "the Program directory", do you mean c:\program files?
The default installation location is in %localappdata%\programs which doesn't require elevated permissions.
This was done by design so as not complicate things for novice users. You're correct that currently the installer does not offer the option to install in c:\program files or to elevate permissions for that purpose. I will consider adding this functionality.
