Why so long to load python tooling?

I've noticed in the last couple of days that it's taking longer than usual to get the python tooling up and running, but I'm not sure if it's something I've caused or not. I've found this in the Remote Extension Host logs below where I can at least see that I'm not mad and it is taking a lot longer than usual.

So between 05:27 and 07:59 what's going on? I'm sitting staring at my screen waiting for it to kick in... Where can I look for answers?

You would need to look in the Output panel in the "Python" channel to see what we are doing that may be taking a while (typically it's from people having a ton of conda environments on their system). Our latest releases have been bugfixes and not around environments which is typically what runs at start-up of the extension.

Here's what I see after loading a devcontainer that used to work a little while ago. The extensions are greyed out/disabled for some reason and haven't loaded. It's been a good 10 minutes now.

I noticed that the greyed python extension is not enabled for some reason

Then if I click on enable I get this popup

My devcontainer.json files lists these extension:

If I click enable on the pylance extension things kick in as expected. Hmm, what's going on?

I'm not sure as we have never seen that error message before. Perhaps it's a bug in the Remote Docker extension? But you do need to enable extension in the devcontainer so that they are installed into the remote "machine".
