Per Darrel:
I think the best we can do is provide suggestions of when these instructions can be useful. e.g.

format this parameter using YYYY-MM-DD format.
ensure this parameter value is all lowercase.
if this parameter is not provided then use this as a default value.
always this value for this parameter
