Image files checkout on pulling from remote

Nearly everytime I pull from remote some image files checkout. And I have never touched them. e.g. status just after a git pull mdn main

I thought I fixed the problem with the following ~/.gitattributes file because the errors went away, but only briefly:

$ cat ~/.gitattributes 
*.png -text
*.jpg -text
*.gif -text

Are there any global git settings I should be using?
