Classic load balancer logs are text files *.log
Application load balancer logs are gunzipped files *.gz

Thanks for the feedback and your interest in our OpenSource repositories!
Although we don't plan to support ALB in the near future, we'll consider it in a future release.

You might also find the official logentries implementation useful (which is actually based on ours): https://github.com/rapid7/le_lambda they seem to have added ALB support.
