Describe your suggested feature

Right now, Weeb Central does three things wrong:

  1. It displays the status of the translations (“Official translations” if the manga has been updated with at least on English volume) in the manga description.
  2. That information along with alternative names is displayed above the manga description, which design-wise doesn’t make much sense. The description should take precedence, no?
  3. The extension pulls the translation status of each chapter and displays it in the app. Theoretically, that should be a useful feature. Unfortunately, NepNep didn’t update the translation status of most of the already completed series after migrating to WeebCentral, so we end up with many, many fully officially translated series having “unofficial” chapters.

The solutions are fairly simple:

  1. Remove the translation status from the manga description. It’s redundant information, especially after adding the per-chapter translation status.
  2. Have the description be above everything else.
  3. As for this, I am torn. On one hand, its inclusion isn’t all that offensive, even if it is an actual source of misinformation (for which Nep is at fault). On the other hand, it looks plain bad when you know for a fact that a chapter has official translations yet the app tells you otherwise.

Depends for 2. If you add something to the library the box is minimized, so you only see the top. So most people wouldn't care about the description for a manga they read, but might be interested in the associated names.

For 1, I don't really care, but it is a bit redundant with the option to filter out the official translations. I think it might be there so that you can search your library for the titles with official translations. In which case I do see some people have a use for it. And it doesn't seem to cause any harm in the description.

But maybe as you say they should be rearranged. But removing something that won't be seen unless you look for it seems unnecessary.

And 3 is staying, the fact that the owner has some mistakes in old titles doesn't warrant ruining the filter for everything that is correct.

I don’t see why people would care more about alternative names than the actual description of the thing they want to read. I am not saying to remove alternative names, but less useful and sought-out information typically is more hidden than the more useful stuff.

If they don’t want to remove it, at least move it further down the description area. This way, it’ll be more hidden yet still allow people to search their library for manga that meet this criterion.

And 3 is staying, the fact that the owner has some mistakes in old titles doesn't warrant ruining the filter for everything that is correct.

Like I said, I am torn on number 3.

Overall, I am thinking about these from both a utility and a design point of view.
