these need improved/additional logging for troubleshooting and tracking progress.

additional: we're getting some messages along the lines of:

Aug 06 15:30:34 c18node4 idigbio-ingestion[22378]: Repeated insert from

from these lines and given that this is an else statement, could stand to be improved.
